With Mike Williams likely to either miss or be limited for tomorrow’s game against the Detroit Lions, the Los Angeles Chargers have made a move to sign wide receiver Andre Patton from their practice squad. This was initially reported via Twitter by
#Chargers are calling up WR Andre Patton from the practice squad, per source. Some extra depth for tomorrow’s game with Mike Williams nursing a knee injury.

The 6’4”, 200-pound receiver out of Rutgers spent last season on the Chargers’ practice squad and was last seen being so good during the preseason that he made Pro Football Focus’ week 2 “team of the week.” Ignoring the unfortunate circumstances that led to his signing, it’s cool to see a guy put in the work, shine when given an opportunity, and then get rewarded for it by getting elevated to the 53-man roster.
In a corresponding move that is more disappointing than it is surprising, Tom Telesco and co. have waived the impressive pass rushing linebacker Chris Peace instead of not-particularly-good-at-anything linebacker Nick Dzubnar. I guess you can chalk this up to their “right 53, not best 53” philosophy.
