The Chargers have made a roster move, releasing Long Snapper Mike Windt. Windt had been with the team for nine seasons.

The team has decided they are going to move on to Cole Mazza as the long snapper moving forward. The move frees up $775k in cap space, according to overthecap.com.
I don’t think this has anything to do with freeing up a little cap space though. I think they wanted to give him enough time to try out with another team before the start of the season. They probably also wanted to free up a roster spot, hopefully to bring in some veteran competition at Offensive Tackle with Russell Okung’s status still a question mark and the continued poor showings from Sam Tevi and Trent Scott.
Mazza has spent the offseason with the team so there is some familiarity there, and with a new placeholder taking over this season as well, now is as good a time as any to make the switch.
