Los Angeles Chargers star wide receiver sustained an ankle injury during practice this week and it threatens to prevent him from appearing in the final three preseason games. The injury is not considered serious, but the team is being understandably cautious. ESPN’s Adam Schefter originally reported the news via Twitter:
Chargers’ WR Keenan Allen suffered an ankle injury at practice this week that is not considered serious, but could knock him out of the Chargers’ remaining three preseason games, per a league source. Allen is expected back for the regular-season opener, per source.

It seems unlikely at this point that Allen is in any real danger of missing time during the regular season, but it is encouraging that the team is taking the necessary precautions to avoid that possibility. Allen is one of the National Football League’s top receivers (or playmakers at any position for that matter) and the offense is simply not in the same tier with him sidelined.
