Prior to the start of training camp tomorrow, the Chargers made a handful of roster transactions, including the placement of left tackle Russell Okung on the Non-Football Injury list (NFI).
At this time, there is still little known about Okung’s apparent injury. During mandatory mini-camp in June, Anthony Lynn was a iron trap for any insight on the situation, continuing to refer to it as an “undisclosed” injury.
It looks like things are as many fans feared. The unknown ailment is going to keep Okung from participating in training camp and may likely keep him out into the regular season, leaving the team to scrape the bottom of the barrel for offensive tackle support. If the team had to field an offensive line today, incumbent right tackle Sam Tevi would be slid across to the left side while 2018 UDFA Trent Scott would man the right side.
Update: General Manager Tom Telesco has shed a tony bit of light on the Okung situation.
According to Telesco, Okung will speak with the media Thursday morning and hopefully clear up a lot of the question swirling around his health.
Per Tom Telesco, Russell Okung started dealing with a "pretty serious medical issue" in early June. He's "doing better" and getting "great care." Could miss all of training camp. Okung will provide more details at tomorrow's opening practice #Chargers
