You guys remember Chris McCain, right? The lanky-as-heck edge rusher for the Chargers in 2017? Well, he’s back in football after a short hiatus...sorta.

It was just announced by the team twitter of the reincarnated Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League that they have signed the former Charger and Miami Dolphin to their roster.

The Columbus Destroyers were a wildly successful team (by AFL standards) from 2004-2008 when they averaged 14,000 fans each game. They were recently brought back from the dead when the AFL announced a new team expansion in the city of Columbus. Instead of picking a brand new team name, logo, etc., they decided bringing the Destroyers back would be best for the short-term popularity of the market and hoped it would play on the city’s nostalgia in their favor.

McCain only played a single season for the Chargers, their first in the city of Los Angeles. He was the third wheel of the pass-rushing tricycle of the Bolts behind Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram where he racked up five sack and a pair of forced fumbles.

He was not brought back following the 2017 season, which led to some major confusion and frustration from fans as he was cheap and fairly productive in his complimentary role.

McCain was later charged with misdemeanor battery stemming from an incident in early January which obviously made the entire fan base collectively say “Oooooohhhhhhh, yeah, we dodged a bullet there.”

He did eventually sign with the Indianapolis Colts but was later placed on injured reserve before being released by the team in September of last year.
