The Los Angeles Chargers used their 5th round pick on NDSU QB Easton Stick. He brings something to the Chargers they don’t have a lot of right now, and that is PLUS athleticism. Stick ran a 4.63 in the 40 and had an insane 6.65 3-cone. He continues the Chargers trend of adding athletes to the roster as his numbers have him as an Elite RAS guy at QB with a 9.45.
Anthony Lynn has said over and over that in today’s NFL your Quarterback needs to have the ability to move, and Stick can do that for sure. He also brings a winning background, his 53 wins are most in FCS history for a QB.
He can contribute as a scout team guy who can stand in as more mobile QBs in practice. Some are saying he might also provide some sub package and special teams value similar to Taysom Hill did last year for the New Orleans Saints.
Because of his athleticism and that thought of him being a Taysom Hill type, it gives them some roster flexibility where being a 3rd QB on the roster isn’t a waste since he could still see the field. He’s a guy that they can probably stash on the practice squad if they don’t want to keep 3 on the roster.
