Los Angeles Chargers select DT Jerry Tillery

A quality player finds his way to Los Angeles

NCAA Football: College Football Playoff Semifinal-Cotton Bowl-Notre Dame vs Clemson Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

With the 28th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Tom Telesco and the Los Angeles Chargers have selected defensive tackle Jerry Tillery out of Notre Dame. Tillery is a good player and fills a big need along the interior of the defensive line. The pick is a bit of a surprise with Jawaan Taylor and Cody Ford still on the board, but you can easily understand the pick. And ultimately, from a value standpoint, this feels like a bit of a reach.

Tillery fits Gus Bradley’s scheme, but he is decidedly less valuable than either of the remaining top four offensive tackles. This is not a disaster like selecting Drew Lock would have been, but Chargers fans can reasonably feel a bit disappointed since offensive tackle was such a big need and the guys who were there were so good.

Overall, though, Tillery is a very talented player and he will help improve an already strong Chargers defense.

Let us know in the comments what you think about this pick, but keep it clean.
