Today, the Los Angeles Chargers announced that they were activating defensive backs Adrian Phillips and Derwin James to the active roster. While the season is essentially lost at this point, the return of Phillips and James gives Anthony Lynn’s team an opportunity to finish strong and potentially even manage a winning season or at least avoid a losing one.
If you take the long view as a fan of the Chargers, the idea of finishing closer to the middle of the pack rather than bottoming out probably does not sound that appealing, but this is a talented team and they are certainly going to be much more enjoyable to watch with some of that talent returning to the field for the final month of the season.
The Chargers defense was expected to be a strength this year, but they have struggled mightily without James and Phillips and they are currently ranked 25th overall. One can certainly expect that ranking to climb now that they are closer to full strength.
