Los Angeles Chargers vs. Green Bay Packers open thread

NFL: Indianapolis Colts at Los Angeles Chargers Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

The 3-5 Los Angeles Chargers will host the 7-1 Green Bay Packers this afternoon as both home underdogs and a team that cannot afford to lose more than perhaps one more game the rest of the season. Combinations of injuries, poor execution, and generally bad coaching decisions have brought the Chargers to this unfortunate point, and they will need improvement in all three areas along with a dash of luck to find their way into the playoffs this season.

Today will be new offensive coordinator Shane Steichen’s first time calling plays and his challenge could not be much more difficult than the one he faces. Green Bay has one of the NFL’s best defenses and if that were not bad enough, Steichen’s offense will have to keep pace with an Aaron Rodgers-led offense that will be getting to go up against the Chargers’ hapless defense.

This will be an incredibly difficult game, but it is the type of game this team needs to win if they are going to overcome their awful first half of the season.
