Special delivery coming through!

Today, the NFL announced the Los Angeles ChargersPhilip Rivers is a finalist for this week’s FedEx Air Player of the Week award for his outstanding performance against the Miami Dolphins.

For 16 years, FedEx has been recognizing the top quarterbacks and running backs who fans believe deliver the best performances for their fans and teammates each week.

When the winners are announced, FedEx will donate $2,000 to the USO in each of their names through FedEx Cares. The weekly $4,000 donation will support USO Pathfinder and other programs that help service members transition back to civilian life.

Rivers takes the reins

Rivers completed 24 of 30 attempts (80 percent) for 310 yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions for an exceptional 131.9 passer rating in the Chargers’ 30-10 win. Yes, it was against a lifeless Dolphins squad, but this is exactly where you’d expect your best players to shine.

This is a great honor because it recognizes Rivers’ excellent play, and it also gives the Chargers a little morale boost. After all, Rivers is in the running to usurp the place held by Patrick Mahomes for the past two weeks running.

This marks Rivers and the Chargers’ first nomination of the season, but it likely won’t be the last.
