Los Angeles Chargers at Los Angeles Rams Open Thread

NFL: Los Angeles Chargers at Los Angeles Rams Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Chargers (1-1) travel from Carson to Los Angeles to take on the Rams (2-0). It will be the Chargers’ first game in Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum since they played the Raiders there in 1994. For what it’s worth, the Chargers won that game. Today, they have a very difficult matchup. According to Football Outsiders’ DVOA, the Rams are the best team in the NFL through two weeks. They have the fourth-ranked offense, third-ranked defense, and third-ranked special teams. That’s about as well-rounded as you can get.

The Chargers’ offense has been slightly better than the Rams (ranked third overall), but their defense has been middle of the pack (17th) and their special teams is among the worst in the NFL (30th) as we have come to expect from a unit coached by a man that previously had no experience coaching special teams. Ultimately, the Chargers look overmatched almost everywhere except quarterback, so if the Chargers are going to win today it will probably take a huge effort from Philip Rivers.
