Tonight’s game is expected to be one of the best of the preseason for the Chargers, which is an annual tradition for each team’s third game. Coaches regularly use at least the first half of the 3rd preseason game as a ‘dress rehearsal’ for the coming regular season.
However, this won’t provide valuable de-rusting for a good number of notable Chargers.
According to ESPN, not suiting up for tonight’s game vs. the New Orleans Saints include:
- DE Joey Bosa
- CB Casey Hayward Jr.
- CB Trevor Williams
- RB Justin Jackson
- DT Darius Philon
- WR Trevor Williams
- WR Dylan Cantrell
- TE Cole Hunt
- TE Hunter Henry
Some, like Henry, are not at all a surprise. Others are likely the coaching staff being cautious with potential injuries and giving rest where they can.
Either way, the fireworks start up for the majority of the Bolts in just a few short minutes on CBS. Drew Brees is expected to make his pre-season debut, which is always a bit of fun when Philip Rivers comes to town.
