The Chargers first round pick is ready to practice.

Chargers first round pick Derwin James has been activated from the Non-Football Injury list and will practice today. James sustained a hamstring injury between OTA’s and the start of Training Camp but has been cleared to begin practicing and will make his Training Camp debut.

Now that James is ready to hit the field the question becomes where does he line up on the field? He was primarily the back-up Safety behind Jahleel Addae in OTA’s but the Free Safety spot has been a turnstile in Training Camp. Rayshawn Jenkins has got the bulk of the snaps with the starters at FS while Desmond King and Jaylen Watkins have been shuffled in and out of that group as well. As of last practice, Addae had his first run at Free Safety adding another body to that group leaving a possible opening for Derwin James at Strong Safety.

Derwin James did line up at the Linebacker spot at Florida State but the Linebacker group has become crowded enough that Adrian Phillips, who took on that role last year, hasn’t seen much snaps there to begin camp. With Kyzir White having a hot start to camp and the good play from some of the starters, it seems there might not be room for James at LB quite yet.

Derwin James is back, now let’s see where the Chargers put him on the field.
