Longtime unofficial Chargers mascot, Boltman, is set to retire after over two decades. However, that does not necessarily mean that you will never see Boltman at another Los Angeles Chargers game because although the man who created and inhabited the suit/character, Dan Jauregui, is giving it up, he is also selling both the suit and the rights to the character on eBay. So, in theory, some new fan could be in the suit on NFL Sundays this season. At time of writing with four days left until the auction closes, the suit and rights are currently going for $70,200.00, but the reserve has not yet been met.
It is possible that whoever buys the suit will simply treat it as exceptionally expensive memorabilia and put it on display in their home, but it seems more likely than not that someone other than Jauregui will be in the costume supporting the Chargers. Personally, it is my hope that whoever wins the auction does continue the tradition.
