Chargers Announce Signing of 21 Undrafted Free Agents

The Chargers have come to terms with 21 new players following the NFL Draft

NFL: Combine Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

As of Saturday night, the Chargers announced the signing of 21 undrafted free agents. The UDFA haul includes players from major college programs to smaller schools that you may not have heard of until now.

The UDFA class is highlighted by Alabama cornerback Tony Brown. Brown, also known as “Crazy Tony” by his former Tide teammates, is one of the fastest players in the entire 2018 class. He ran a blazing 4.35-second 40-yard dash at the combine and would instantly be the fastest player on the team. He played in all 14 games this past season while collecting 31 total tackles, two passes defended, and a single interception.

Another name to keep an eye is former Minnesota defensive tackle Steven Richardson. At 6-feet tall and 292 pounds, Richardson may seem undersized but he was as disruptive as they come in the Big Ten. He finished his career as a Golden Gopher with 103 tackles, 28.5 for loss, 12.5 sacks to go along with five forced fumbles in 48 games.

After not selecting a single offensive tackle during the draft, the Chargers picked up two tackles that each have four years of starting experience. The first is massive 6-foot-7, 310-pound Zach Crabtree of Oklahoma State who was paramount in keeping prolific quarterback Mason Rudolph on his feet. The second is Chris Durant out of William & Mary. The 6-foot-4, 310-pound tackle was a three-time Third-Team All-CAA who handled blindside responsibilities his entire career with the Tribe.
