Truly the end of an era is upon us.
While TE Jason Witten is preparing to retire, TE Antonio Gates wants to continue playing, though the Charges informed him this off-season they do not plan to bring him back to LA, per league source.

It means one of top all-time TEs is now willing to finish his career elsewhere.
It appears as though all time Chargers, and NFL for that matter, Tight End Antonio Gates will not take another snap for the Chargers.
Gates, who started his career as an Undrafted Free Agent, who as we all know played basketball in college instead of football, who broke almost every record they have for TEs. His connection with Philip Rivers has been one of the best and most consistent in history.
Gates is a sure Hall of Famer, and one of the best, if not the best TE in the history of the league.
I wish his time as a Charger would have ended on a higher note. I will miss seeing 85 on the field, and I’ll definitely miss 17 throwing to 85. However, the time has come. As we hear all the time “this is a business.” It is time to pass the torch to Hunter Henry.
