Florida State’s Derwin James is one of the best players in this draft and it is a borderline dream that he is now heading to the Los Angeles Chargers. Although a lot of people mocked James to the Chargers in the lead up to the draft, the fact that he actually fell far enough for the Chargers to select him is shocking to me.
The Chargers have not had a safety this good since Eric Weddle in his prime. Even Tom Telesco who notably tends to undervalue safeties could not pass on James in the middle of the first round. This is an absolute coup for Gus Bradley’s defense. There are quality defensive tackles available on day 2 and this gives the Chargers an absurdly good secondary.
Seems like Derwin James is underrated all of the sudden(that’ll change post combine.)

put together some clips of him in coverage. In man, he’s better than most cbs. He erases guys.
Working through this class, I can’t find 10 better. Surprised I don’t see him higher in mocks pic.twitter.com/0QvTMMedAC
