Late last week reports began to circle that newly-released center Mike Pouncey planned to meet with some potential suitors over the weekend. The Chargers were the loudest name of the bunch, and indeed Pouncey did arrive in southern California on Saturday for the Sunday/Monday interview.
There was word that the meeting would include some workouts and personnel meetings. This usually indicates that a team is especially interested in a candidate (and vice-versa), but obviously is far from a true offer.
Dan Woike reported the following after today’s meeting:
Early word out of Chargers facility is that the meeting with FA C Mike Pouncey is going well. We’ll see what, exactly, that means in coming hours/days.

During the offseason, even cricket chirps can make for tantalizing news. The Pouncey saga, however, seems more concrete than run-of-the-mill rumors and rumblings. Both sides are clearly quite interested in each other, but now it’s a matter of doing homework and looking at the big picture.
Pouncey, a three-time Pro Bowler, was cut by the Dolphins last week to save $7 million in cap space. The biggest challenge for Pouncey is proving that his surgically repaired hip, which has kept him out of 17 games over the past five seasons, will not be an issue moving forward. To accommodate the issue, the Dolphins allowed Pouncey to skip one practice a week during the regular season. This was the first time he was able to play all 16 games since 2012.
Pouncey’s last contract was signed in 2015; a 5-year contract extension with the Dolphins worth $52.15 million with $22 million guaranteed. Expect him to look for a similar amount in his next commitment.
