Sturgis was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017 but missed almost the entire campaign due to a hip injury.
Before the injury occurred, Sturgis hit 3-of-3 field goals. Despite the small sample size from last season, Sturgis improved in every season he was in the league.
Sturgis’ field goal percentage rose throughout his first four years in the league. He ended his rookie season in Miami hitting 76.5 percent of his kicks, and in 2016 with Philadelphia, he hit 85.4 percent.
The Chargers met with Sebastian Janikowski yesterday as well. Neither Sturgis or Janikowski saw much action in 2017, so they will need to prove themselves throughout OTAs and training camp.
According to the Chargers team website, they currently have three kickers on the roster. Veteran Nick Novak, Nick Rose, and Roberto Aguayo. After the kicking disaster that occurred last season, the kicking battle in Los Angeles will be of legendary proportions.
