This is a great time of year to be thankful for what we have, where we have been, and what the future holds. Although the Chargers have lost their way a bit in recent years, the month of December still holds such incredible promise! This advent calendar is an attempt to hearken back to these days of December joy. Each day will bring a new advent from the Bolts’ history that makes it wonderful to be a Chargers fan.
Dec. 02: A History of Chargers Vs. Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers lead the Chargers in the all-time series 22-7, but the Chargers hold the edge in playoff head-to-head matchups 2-1 including the 1994 AFC Conference Championship Game. That game, of course, is the high point in franchise history for the Chargers.
If you have two hours to kill, I highly recommend watching it again. It’s still enjoyable 23 years later.
Aside from that all-time classic, the two franchises have been linked by the 2004 NFL Draft quarterback class which landed the Chargers Philip Rivers and the Steelers Ben Roethlisberger. The two quarterbacks have squared off five times, with Big Ben taking their only playoff matchup and their four regular season games being split.
The Chargers’ first played the Steelers in 1973 and last played them in 2015, so today’s Sunday Night Football matchup in Pittsburgh will be the first time the Los Angeles Chargers will face the Steelers.
