To make room for Michael Badgley, they have waived KR/WR JJ Jones. Jones became expendable when the team tried CB Desmond King at KR/PR and he has been the best returner the team has had in a while. Jones may come back at some point since the reason for this signing is that Sturgis has a hamstring injury, meaning that Badgley is likely a rental.
Sturgis is probably on extremely thin ice at this point, at least you would hope. He has been anything but reliable, even after switching holders back to his holder from his Philadelphia Eagles days. Now he is hurt again after supposedly battling through a minor injury all through training camp. If Badgley comes in and is 100% on FG and XP even for one game it’s going to look worse for Sturgis.
