Conference Championship Sunday: Who are you rooting for?

NFL: AFC Wild Card-Buffalo Bills at Jacksonville Jaguars Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

Today’s games feature three great defenses, two backup quarterbacks, and the best head coach of all time. The New England Patriots are playing in their seventh consecutive AFC Championship Game while the Jaguars are making their first appearance since 1999 (and only their third ever). The Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings last made the NFC Championship Game in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

If you’re the sort of person that simply likes to see greatness shine, you are probably hoping for another Bill Belichick/Tom Brady Super Bowl appearance, but if you’re a Chargers fan (and I assume you are if you’re reading this), you’re probably rooting against them. The Jaguars are quarterbacked by Blake Bortles and honestly, it would just be funny to see Bortles starting a Super Bowl, but the real reason to root for them is to get to watch their incredible defense play on Super Bowl Sunday.

On the NFC side of the bracket, the Vikings have a chance to be the first team to ever play a home Super Bowl and only the Nick Foles-led Eagles stand in their way. Carson Wentz was the likely NFL Most Valuable Player before he was lost for the season, so if the Eagles are able to overcome losing him, it would be a rather stunning turn of events.
