The Los Angeles Chargers play their first regular season home game since fleeing San Diego for Carson today when they take on the Miami Dolphins. Thanks to the hurricane, the Dolphins had a bye in week 1 and are playing their season opener this afternoon.
The defense of the Chargers will be playing without their top cornerback Jason Verrett today as he has not fully recovered from his ACL injury and he will be week-to-week moving forward. The secondary already struggled last week against the Denver Broncos and the Dolphins are arguably a superior passing attack being led by Jay Cutler instead of Trevor Siemian (though it remains to be seen how good the 2017 version of Cutler is).
On offense, the Chargers are as healthy as they were a week ago and while Mike Williams is a week closer to getting on the field, Philip Rivers will still be short his first-round wide receiver. Hopefully, Keenan Allen will recover from his many drops from Monday Night and be able to carry the load at receiver. It will be interesting to see if Ken Whisenhunt manages to get his tight ends involved this week after Hunter Henry was a nonentity in the season opener.
Discuss the first half with us here. We will have a separate open thread for the second half. Go Chargers!
