It’s the last thing you want to happen during an exhibition game. Having one of your starting players go down with an injury. Unfortunately, that's the position the Chargers find themselves in at the moment with Denzel Perryman injuring his left ankle in the Bolts preseason opener.

After making his way to the sideline, barely able to put weight on his ankle, Perryman was placed on a cart and taken to the locker room. Before the cart left, it looked like Perryman was saying he felt or heard a “pop”. That would not be good news for the Chargers or their young linebacker.
The first thing you worry about is a rupture of the Achilles tendon, which is most often accompanied by a noticeable pop. Of course, that's not the only possible for Denzel, but you expect the worst while hoping for the best.
It was later announced by the Chargers that Perryman would not return for the remainder of the game.

He was seen on the sideline with crutches and sporting a boot, though no additional information on the severity of the injury has been revealed at this point. It would be a tough loss for the Chargers defense if Perryman ends up missing the season. Hopefully, that won't be the case. The coming days will tell.
