In one of the least surprising bits of news you will ever read, the Los Angeles Chargers are picking up the 2018 option for their star cornerback, Jason Verrett. While Verrett has missed a lot of time due to injury since coming in the National Football League, he has been phenomenal when on the field of play. There was no realistic scenario in which Chargers general manager Tom Telesco would not exercise this option.
That said, the thing we all knew was going to happen has now happened. Jason Verrett will be one of the Chargers’ starting cornerbacks for the next two seasons and that is one fewer thing that recently hired defensive coordinator Gus Bradley will have to worry about for the foreseeable future. He and Casey Hayward are one of the league’s best cornerback pairs and there is no reason to believe that is going to change anytime soon.
