NFL DRAFT 2017: Los Angeles Chargers select Miami Hurricanes Safety Rayshawn Jenkins

The Los Angeles Chargers may have finally found their Eric Weddle replacement in their 4th Round selection of RayShawn Jenkins from the University of Miami.

In the 4th Round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Chargers selected the Safety out of Miami who is 6’1, 214 pounds and a very good athlete.

A 4.51 second 40 yard dash in above-average for a Safety, but Rayshawn Jenkins’ 37" vertical and 10’6" broad jump tells you he’s an explosive athlete. If you watched the Senior Bowl practices, Jenkins was the guy in the fist fight. So, there’s that....

It’ll be interesting to see what his role is with the team. He seems like he’d play the "Kam Chancellor" role in Gus Bradley’s defense. I haven’t watched much film on him, but I know he’s a big hitter. I also know he whiffs on a lot of tackles. We’ll soon have a better idea of who he is as player.

Here’s his highlights.

Do you think he’ll compete to start or is this just a depth signing? Any targets you would’ve preferred over Jenkins? This is the first defensive player the team drafted this year. It’ll be interesting to see which position they go with next.
