In the 3rd round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Chargers have selected OG Dan Feeney.

Feeney is a stud OG. He moves really well from the guard position and is probably the best pass blocking OG in the draft. Feeney has only given up 2 sacks in college. Feeney had a second round grade from me, and many others.

The concern with Feeney is that he has a history with concussions, a problem that is known all too well to Chargers fans with offensive linemen.

I like the strategy the Chargers are using in this draft. I was hoping for this a few years ago when I suggested that the Chargers draft OL and build a wall for Philip Rivers and Melvin Gordon. Forrest Lamp, Max Tuerk, and Dan Feeney have the potential to spend the next 3-4 years becoming a dominant interior. Which will provide a great safety net for Rivers, Gordon, and the eventual replacement for Rivers.

There was a lot of good names at EDGE on the board which would have been nice to see, and this definitely isn’t a “sexy” pick, but this is how you build a good football team.
