I was asked yesterday afternoon to go on The Mighty 1090 and break down the 1st Round of the NFL Draft. I would join Craig Elsten from 8p-9p from the Tilted Kilt Pub in Mission Valley, and we would talk about all of the storylines coming from the Draft in Philadelphia, not just focusing on the Los Angeles Chargers.
That’s good news! The bad news is that I hadn’t focused at all on the NFL Draft. Here’s a video of me from the night before joking about how I knew literally nothing about this year’s draft class. Now, I was terrified.
I had a few hours before the start of the 2017 NFL Draft so I threw myself into any and all coverage I could find. Podcasts, blogs, live pre-draft TV coverage. I was a damn sponge for information.
Then the Draft started. I settled in. I watched every pick, I checked how each pick fit with that team’s roster, and while I was doing all of this....something happened. Something weird. Something I didn’t expect....
I fell a little bit back in love with the NFL. My favorite sport of all-time, the one that I’ve built an identity around, had been an afterthought for me over the last few months. There was nothing good about it, in my mind. I thought, “I’ll see how I feel about it when the season starts.”
Well, the season started last night, at least for me. I loved it. I ate it up. Which is good news when you’re asked to go on-air and talk about it for an hour.
If you’d like to hear Craig and I talk our way through the last few picks of the draft last night, while simultaneously recapping the entire 1st Round (including our thoughts on the Chargers’ pick of WR Mike Williams), you can check it out right here:
