Kansas City Chiefs Trade Up for Potential Franchise Quarterback

The Chiefs traded way up to select Patrick Mahomes

NCAA Football: Baylor vs Texas Tech Michael C. Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs traded the 27th overall pick, 91st overall pick, and next year’s first round pick to the Buffalo Bills for the right to select Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes with the 10th overall pick. Mahomes is a relatively raw player in a lot of respects, but Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is one of the best in the business at getting a lot out of his quarterback. What Mahomes also is is nearly the polar opposite of Chiefs current quarterback Alex Smith.

Mahomes is a gunslinger at heart and he loves to throw the occasional (or frequent) “what the [bleep]” ball. He also has a huge arm, probably the biggest in the draft. Alex Smith, on the other hand, is one of the most conservative quarterbacks you have ever seen and he has maybe the weakest arm of any starting quarterback in the National Football League.

What do you think? Did the Chiefs just find their franchise quarterback?
