REPORT: Danny Woodhead Will Sign With Baltimore Ravens

The Chargers’ most efficient running back is heading to Baltimore.

Los Angeles Chargers running back Danny Woodhead will reportedly sign with the Baltimore Ravens when free agency officially begins according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

The third down running back has been one of the best and most efficient rushing/receiving threats in the NFL throughout most of his career. He is coming off an ACL surgery that cut his 2016 season short, but by all accounts he is healthy. Early reports suggested that the Chargers wanted to re-sign Woodhead and that they were making progress toward that end. Presumably, the Ravens were willing to either provide more years or guaranteed money than the Chargers were. You also can’t completely discount the idea that former Charger and current Raven Eric Weddle may have done a little recruiting on his current employer’s behalf.

Even following a season lost to injury, this is a big loss for the Chargers’ offense. It will be interesting to see how Telesco and co. try to replace one of the best receiving backs in the NFL. There are not that many players that can do what Woodhead does as well as he does it.

What do you think? Who should the Chargers look to sign now that Woodhead is gone?

UPDATE: And former Chargers beat writer Michael Gehlken confirms it:
