The hits just keep coming for the Chargers this morning. The team has reportedly made a third move to free up space for free agency, and to sign their upcoming draft picks.
CB Brandon Flowers is to be released.
CB Brandon Flowers due $9 million in 2017. Release would free $7M in cap. Chargers already have cleared $12.321M from RG Fluker, WR Johnson.

The #Chargers, who released DJ Fluker and Stevie Johnson today, are also releasing CB Brandon Flowers, a former big-ticket FA signing.

Cutting Flowers is the right move. He was a stud in run defense last year, however he is becoming more of a liability in coverage. Couple that with all of his concussions and this is a solid move for the Chargers.
For his own health, I would hope that Flowers at least considers retirement at this point. However I wouldn’t blame him if he wants to keep rolling.
The first 3 moves by the Chargers today have cleared up about $19.3 million in cap space. Adding that to the $5.146 they already had and the Chargers are at just about $24.5 million in free space. I would expect at least one more cut to create more space.
