The Los Angeles Chargers are reportedly close to signing former Philadelphia Eagles running back Kenjon Barner, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport (via Twitter):
Former #Eagles RB Kenjon Barner is signing with #Chargers, source said. More RB depth.

The 5’9”, 196-pound former Oregon Duck was drafted in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers. He carried the ball only six times in his rookie year before being traded to the Eagles in August of 2014. He was subsequently released and signed to their practice squad where he spent the 2014 season. He made the roster in 2015 but totaled only 55 carries between that season and 2016.
During his limited playing time with the Eagles, Barner has been efficient putting up 18.3% and 33.8% DVOA as a runner in his two seasons with them. He was also a relatively effective kick returner in the time he saw there. That added versatility may be his best shot for playing for the Chargers in 2017.
