Former Chargers WR Robert Meachem Has Gone to Jail

Former Chargers receiver has been thrown in jail for not making alimony payments

NFL: New Orleans Saints-Minicamp Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

Robert Meachem ripped off the Chargers. In one incredibly disappointing season in 2012, Meachem received 14 balls on 32 targets for 207 yards and 2 TDs. After averaging around 650 yrs and 7 TDs in his final three years of his rookie contract, during his one year stint with the Chargers, they paid him just about $1 million per ball he caught (when you include the dead cap the next season). He played only two more seasons in the NFL after running back to the Saints. He caught for 438 yards and 2 TDs in his final two seasons in the NFL and hasn’t had a job since 2014.

Now he’s begun serving a 30-day sentence in jail after not paying roughly $400,000 in alimony and child support. He can be released from jail once he’s paid $100,000 to his ex-wife Andrea Rhodes who he has two children with. Apparently, he owed about $588,000 but had paid about $200,000.

His excuse? He believed that money had been taken by assistants working for him because he didn't pay attention to his bank. Either way, he’s an idiot, and got what was coming to him.
