1st Quarter

The Oakland Raiders started the game on offense and the Chargers defense held them to a three-and-out.

The Chargers started on their own 22 and managed to move across midfield helped by a big play to Travis Benjamin, but ultimately they had to punt.

The Raiders, thanks to chunk plays from Michael Crabtree and Marshawn Lynch, moved the ball from their own 10 to the Chargers 40 before eventually punting, but they managed to eat up a ton of clock.

Starting from their own 1, the Chargers handed off to Derek Watt to get a little breathing room. Melvin Gordon then chipped in with a 9-yard run that moved the sticks. He then added another 11 yards to move them again. Then at their own 23, Gordon rushed for a 5-yard gain on 1st down.

2nd Quarter

Travis Benjamin got the first target of the 2nd quarter, and he picked up 8 yards and a 1st down. They went to Benjamin once again on an endaround but an illegal block in the back backed them up. A swing pass to Gordon gained 1 yard and resulted in a 2nd & 16. Rivers looked for Allen on the next play but a nice play by T.J. Carrie caused an incompletion. A deep shot on 3rd down fell to the turf, but a defensive pass interference call gave the Chargers a new set of downs. Gordon got the handoff and took it 14 yards before he fumbled right into the hands of Allen who took it the rest of the way for a touchdown. Nick Rose converted the point after attempt.

Melvin Ingram and Darius Philon combined for a sack on 1st down. On 2nd, Derek Carr’s pass fell incomplete. On 3rd down, Cordarrelle Patterson appeared to pick up the necessary yards, but an illegal block in the back took that away. Unfortunately, on the next play Amari Cooper got wide open down the middle of the field and Carr hit him in stride for an 87-yard touchdown. Giorgio Tavecchio tied the game with an extra point.

Philip Rivers hit Keenan Allen for a 26-yard gain to start the next drive. Antonio Gates added another 9. Gordon moved the sticks then tacked on 7 more yards. Branden Oliver took a carry for a yard. An incomplete pass by Rivers was followed by a false start that gave Nick Rose a longer field goal attempt which was blocked.

The Raiders with a short field went three-and-out, but Tavecchio converted a 40-yard field goal attempt.

A Khalil Mack unnecessary roughness penalty moved the Chargers to midfield and Tyrell Williams took a Philip Rivers pass 56 yards for a touchdown to give the Chargers the lead.

The Raiders moved the ball well getting across the 50-yard line before Carr heaved the ball into the endzone and was intercepted by Tre Boston.

Rivers passed to Gates for 4 yards. Gordon took a short pass on the next play upfield for 12 yards. Allen hauled in a pass across the deep middle for 17 yards. The Chargers took a timeout at 61 seconds left in the half. Gordon took a short pass for 3 yards and got out of bounds. Spencer Pulley and Kenny Wiggins got out in front of Gordon on a screen pass on the next play and he picked up 14 yards. Williams ran a 1-yard route and ended up picking up no yards but got out of bounds. Gates caught a pass from Rivers for a 20-yard gain, but it was close on the sideline and resulted in a booth review. The ruling on the field stood and the Chargers had a 1st down inside the Raiders’ 10-yard line. Allen then beat Carrie in the back corner of the end zone for a touchdown. The extra point was blocked.

3rd Quarter

The Chargers first play of the second half was a beauty of a route by Keenan Allen that resulted in a catch and run of 23 yards. Gordon then took a handoff up the middle for 16 yards. Gordon rushed for 17 yards on the next play. Oliver then came in and was tackled for a 4-yard loss. Gates caught a 12-yard pass across the middle to set up 3rd and manageable that Oliver turned into a 1st down. Irvin beat Gates badly and Rivers was flagged for intentional grounding. An incomplete pass set up 3rd & goal from the 17. Allen picked up 10 yards leaving the Chargers with 4th & goal from the 7. Nick Rose converted the field goal.

Lynch ran for 3 yards. Jared Cook picked up 6 more. On 3rd & 1, Lynch got the call again and he punished the Chargers’ poor tackling with a 19-yard run. Cooper moved the sticks again with an 11-yard gain. Lynch then ran for another 10 yards. DeAndre Washington chipped in with 2 yards. Cooper came very close to making a nice catch along the sideline but the pass was ruled incomplete and after a challenge the call stood. On 3rd & 8, Jalen Richard caught a short pass and picked up 6 yards with Jatavis Brown making the tackle short of the sticks. The Raiders went for it on 4th down and Tenny Palepoi tackled Lynch in the backfield to give the ball back to the offense.

Gordon caught a short pass to the left and picked up 2 yards. Allen took a wide receiver screen pass for 5 yards and notched his 100th reception of the season. Benjamin picked up the 1st down on the next play. Gordon was tackled for a 2-yard loss on 1st down. Mike Williams got his first reception of the day and picked up 8 yards. On 3rd & 4, Rivers scrambled for the 1st down. Oliver lost 3 yards on the next play. Then Gates dropped a pass that would have moved the sticks. On 3rd & 13, Travis Benjamin ran by his man and Rivers hit him in stride for a 62-yard touchdown. Rose converted the extra point.

A pair of Lynch runs ended the quarter.

4th Quarter

Joey Bosa started the 4th quarter off right with a sack of Derek Carr that forced an Oakland punt.

The Chargers gained over 30 yards over six plays and ran some clock before punting back to the Raiders.

Seth Roberts gained 7 yards on 1st down. Carr tried to go back to him on 2nd but it fell incomplete. On 3rd & 3, Lynch gained only 2. They lined up to go for it on 4th but fumbled the shotgun snap and gave the ball back to Los Angeles.

Four Gordon runs could only pick up 9 yards and the Chargers turned the ball over on downs.

Lynch took a short pass and turned it into 17 yards. Roberts added another reception for 8 yards. Carr went to Roberts again for 4 more yards and a new set of downs. Roberts got the call a third time and ran after catch for a 26-yard gain. They went to Roberts yet again and Hayes Pullard made a beautiful tackle to stop him for only 3 yards. A terrible call by the officials tacked on 15 yards. An 11-yard run by Lynch put the Raiders inside the Chargers’ 10. On 1st & goal from the 8, Lynch picked up another 5. From the 5, they handed to Lynch again but he was stopped at the line. Carr’s pass to Cooper initially appeared to be intercepted by Casey Hayward but it was ruled incomplete. Carr’s next pass on 4th down was also incomplete and gave the ball back to the Chargers.

Branden Oliver got the first carry of the next drive and ran for 11 yards to bring us to the 2-minute warning. Oliver’s next carry lost 2 yards. Clemens kneeled on the next down to run out the clock.
