Amidst the disappointment that was the Los Angeles Chargers game against the Jacksonville Jaguars this past Sunday, there were a few rays of light that shined in the darkness of defeat. One of which was first year running back Austin Ekeler. The rookie back out of Western State was the Chargers most impressive player on offense this past week, leading the team in rushing (10 carries, 42 yards, 4.2 ypc) and receiving (5 receptions, 77 yards, 15.4 ypr) while scoring the teams only two touchdowns of the day. That performance has earned Ekeler a nomination for the Pepsi Rookie of the Week award.

Austin Ekeler stepped up big time for the Bolts on a day when Melvin Gordon was finding little success against a formidable Jacksonville front-seven. It was a performance more than deserving of taking home the award this week.
Ekelers competition for rookie of the week are:
RB Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints - 106 yards, Touchdown
QB C.J. Beathard, San Francisco 49ers - 288 yards, 3 Touchdowns
WR Juju Smith-Schuster, Pittsburgh Steelers - 97 yards, Touchdown
QB Deshone Kizer, Cleveland Browns - 232 yards, 2 Touchdowns
