Coming off their Week 9 Bye, the Los Angeles Chargers (3-5) are traveling to Jacksonville to take on one of the two teams currently occupying AFC Wild Card spots in the Jaguars (5-3). Neither the AFC West nor the Wild Card are out of reach for the Chargers despite their sub-.500 record through nine weeks, but this contest is approaching “must-win.”
It is unlikely that the Chargers could hope to make the playoffs without reaching 10 wins (especially if they carry a head-to-head loss to one of the teams they are competing with) and a loss today would require a 7-game winning streak to close the season. I don’t have to tell you that this would be a tall task for a team that has lost more than it has won this year (and the last few years before that).
A win against the Jaguars would be a huge statement, but it would also be hugely meaningful in the standings. A Chargers win and a Buffalo Bills loss to the Saints would be have Los Angeles sitting only one game out of a playoff spot.
