Los Angeles Chargers at New England Patriots: Open Thread

The Los Angeles Chargers are currently in the midst of a three-game winning streak after starting their season 0-4. They are taking on the defending Super Bowl champions today in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Something has to give. The Patriots are 7-point favorites (or more depending on the sports book you choose), so it would seem the most likely outcome is that the Chargers’ streak comes to an end. However, the Chargers we have watched the last few weeks (and especially last week) are not the bumbling losers we have come to know the last several seasons.

New England is a very good football team and they are tough at home (most NFL team are). However, the Patriots have lost two games this season and both losses came at Gillette Stadium, so it is not as though they are invincible. Anthony Lynn has his team playing at a very high level right now and the defense, in particular, can hang with anyone. Joey Bosa, Melvin Ingram, and Chris McCain form one of the most dangerous collections of pass rushers outside of Jacksonville, Florida. Casey Hayward and Trevor Williams are one of the best starting cornerback duos in the NFL right now. If they can slow down Tom Brady and the Patriots offense, Philip Rivers and the offense should be able to score on the Patriots (everyone else this season certainly has).
