Never mind the Chargers staying in San Diego as opposed to sharing Los Angeles with the Rams, never mind them looking for a head coach that can give more than, “Failed to execute” as an explanation, they made roster moves!!!
The Chargers signed six players to reserve/future contracts. The Chargers signed the following players: T Brett Boyko; CB Randall Evans; CB Mike Lee; LB Chris McCain; S Adrian McDonald; and TE Jake McGee. In a season plagued with injuries, getting some depth for the practice squad, or active roster, for next year is a good idea.
Just in case it needs to be mentioned, players who were not on an active roster at the end of this season are allowed to sign a reserve/future contract, and have the chance to compete for a spot on the active roster at the start of the new league year. Future/reserve contracts provide opportunity for players to compete for a roster spot in offseason workouts and during training camp.
All six players were practice squad players for the Chargers, but Adrian McDonald and Jake McGee were the two players that were Chargers for the entire season. Boyko was waived during final roster cuts and spent the 2016 season with the Philadelphia Eagles. It will be interesting to see who makes the active roster in the future.
