BREAKING: Chargers Fire Head Coach Mike McCoy

2 years too late, but better late than never.

The day has finally come everyone. 2017 is already better than 2016 and it hasn’t even been 24 hours yet. Mike McCoy has been fired as Chargers Head Coach.

Ben Higgins had it first, but very quickly after his tweet, it was confirmed by multiple sources.

McCoy did nothing with the Chargers while he was here. The team’s best record under his time at the helm was 9-7. His coaching style and philosophies, combined with the coaching staff he assembled under himself, made for a Chargers team that could not finish, were poor tacklers, and lacked a killer instinct.

McCoy had John Fox levels of conservative play. More than happy to settle for field goals instead of going for a 1st down on 4th and short. More than happy to kneel it out going into half time with a lead and time outs to spare. More than happy to excuse a loss with lines like “we didn’t execute.”

I think most of us know the real problem with the Chargers resides with the people who just fired him. But this is a good start. At least this gives us hope.

Happy new year.
