The San Diego Chargers continue to trim the roster trying to get down to 53 before the deadline later today. With that said, it pains me to write that FB and reserve naval officer Chris Swain has been waived.
The news was reported by Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Chargers waived fullback Chris Swain, source says. Reserve officer in U.S. Navy scored TD Thursday on team's "Salute to the Military" night.

The move is a major disappointment, though not necessarily shocking. It would have been a surprise for the team to carry two fullbacks on the roster. Swain, an undrafted rookie out of Navy, showed well in the final preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers scoring a rushing touchdown and demonstrating his skills as a blocker. Swain arguably is a better FB than the one the team has elected to keep, as he possesses superior blocking ability and was capable of producing as the team’s short-yardage back. The best case scenario now is that he clears waivers and the Chargers are able to add him to the practice squad.
My friends, let us all take a moment for Chris Swain.
