After tearing his ACL in week 1 of the NFL Regular Season, Keenan Allen has not yet had surgery. According to Michael Gehlken, he is going in for surgery today. Danny Woodhead’s surgery will take place on Friday:
Chargers WR Keenan Allen having surgery today on torn ACL, sources said. RB Danny Woodhead had his Friday. Their road to 2017 begins.

It’s puzzling that it has taken so long for the Chargers to get these two into surgery, and some at BFTB wonder if maybe Dean Spanos had a 2-for-1 coupon, which would explain the wait. Also, you’re welcome for not subjecting all of you to seeing the heart-wrenching picture of Keenan Allen sobbing as he’s taken off the field.
In all seriousness, both of these explosive playmakers will have a long and difficult recovery process. Keenan Allen had his 4th season ending injury in just 5 years and Danny Woodhead has suffered his 3rd season ending injury. Woodhead tore his ACL in 2008, fractured his fibula in 2014, and tore his ACL last week.
Let’s hope Danny Woodhead is re-signed by the Chargers, since he is up for a new contract at the end of the year. I guarantee Philip Rivers will be in Tom Telesco’s office begging to re-sign one of his best friends. Here’s to 2017 when Keenan Allen and Danny Woodhead both come back with a vengeance.
