Three days ago we found out that Philip Rivers was nominated for the weekly FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week. Today it has been announced that after the votes were counted, the San Diego Chargers quarterback has won that title for week 2 of the NFL season.
Given his superlative performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars, this should come as no surprise. Rivers completed 70.8 percent of his 24 passes for a total of 220 passing yards and four touchdowns. For those that care, that’s good for a 138.9 passer rating.
And because of this win, $2,000 will be donated to the USO in Rivers’ name.
And not that anyone here cares, but the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week award was given to the New York Jets’ Matt Forte for the trouncing he helped lay on the Buffalo Bills last week. Ignore that final score, it was a trouncing.
