Philip Rivers Nominated for FEDEX AIR Award

After throwing 4TD’s in the dismantling of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Philip Rivers has been nominated for the FEDEX AIR player of the week.

NFL: Jacksonville Jaguars at San Diego Chargers Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

Philip Rivers is in good company this week, with Matt Ryan and reigning MVP, Cam Newton. We all know how well Philip Rivers played this past week, despite PFF giving him a score barely above Blake Bortles. Their reasoning was that Rivers barely threw more than 10 yards down the field. When he did, he was incredible.

I didn’t think there was anything wrong than effectively managing a game, with 70.8% completion rate, 220 yards (for 9.16 yds/att) on 17 of 24, and 4 TDs for a passer rating of 138.9. His only muff was his sack strip fumble in the red zone. Philip Rivers has been nominated a bunch of times, and has won 9 during his career. Make sure to go vote and let’s make Rivers win this award once again. In a show of appreciation of the military, the NFL makes a $2,000 donation in the winner’s name to the USO. Vote here.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan completed 26 of 34 passes (76.5 percent) for 296 yards and 3 touchdowns for a 131.5 passer rating in the Falcons’ 35-28 win at the Oakland Raiders.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton completed 24 of 40 passes (60 percent) for 353 yards and 4 touchdowns for a 111.8 passer rating in the Panthers’ 46-27 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

Unfortunately, Melvin Gordon was not nominated for Ground player of the week, as Matt Forte (Jets) was nominated with 100 yards on 30 carries, and 3 touchdowns, Isaiah Crowell (Browns) rushed for 133 yards on 18 carries and a TD, and LeGarrette Blount (NE Patriots) rushed for 123 yards on 29 carries and a TD.
