Today around the league, teams have started to cut down their rosters to get to the final 53. Players and personnel dread this day, but it does not necessarily mean the end of the road for all players who are cut. For those who have been keeping up with preseason, today may be a sad day because the bubble player you were cheering for just did not make the cut. Some bubble players may continue to work with the Chargers as practice squad players and some may find themselves with a new city and a new team.
Possible Practice Squad:
Wide receiver, Deandre Reaves; Cornerback, Larry Scott; and Guard, Vi Teofilo, could end up on the practice squad. Both Reaves and Scott were signed as undrafted rookie free agents, while Vi Teofilo, was signed on after a successful rookie minicamp back in May. All three rookies have seen limited playing time and could all be additions down the line. Teofilo was brought on-board as a back up for D.J. Fluker, and with the lack of depth on the Chargers' O-line, Teofilo will be definitely be an asset as the season plays out. Keep an eye on those three players to possibly return as Chargers practice squad players.
Greener Pastures:
Richard Crawford, an Oceanside native, is a three year pro and was on the Chargers' practice squad in 2014-2015. Crawford's journey with the Chargers may come to an end, but look for the 26 year old to sign with another team in search of a cornerback. Marcel Jones, was drafted in 2012 and has been bouncing around from team to team as a practice squad player. Jones may also be moving on from the Chargers and finding a new home with a team looking for a big man to sign to their practice squad.
We will keep you posted as the roster moves and cuts come in, until then say a little prayer for you favorite Chargers' bubble player.
