Other than Keenan Allen, Danny Woodhead may have been the Chargers most irreplaceable non-quarterback. Well, today it looks like he will join Allen on the sideline. We do not yet know the severity of Woodhead’s injury, but it did not look good.
After being tackled by Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith, Woodhead stayed down on the turf for an extended period of time. He was eventually helped off the field by trainers. He did not put any weight whatsoever on his right leg. He was then put on the cart and driven off to the locker room for further evaluation.
All we can do at this point is hope that Woodhead’s injury is not as bad as Allen’s. I do not know how the offense would absorb injuries to its two best third down receiving options in back-to-back weeks to open the regular season. At the very least, Woodhead appears to be done for the game and we’ll be lucky if he only misses a few weeks.
UPDATE:
Hope is that @Chargers RB @danny__woodhead only has MCL sprain. Optimism this isn't season-ending injury, @sn_nfl has learned
