Chargers release first depth chart of 2016

With the first preseason game this weekend, the Chargers have released their first depth chart.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The Chargers have released their first depth chart of the 2016 season. With 90 players on the roster, there is a ton of names to look at. Just remember, this is the first depth chart, and I would assume anyone not named RiversGatesVerrett, and Allen has their names written in pencil at this point.

Offense

There are a few surprises here. After getting some reps with the 1s and impressing a few people over the last week of practice, Isaiah Burse is at the bottom of the WR depth chart. Max Tuerk is listed third at Centerbehind UDFA Spencer Pulley, even though it has been Tuerk, for the most part, running with the 2s. Sean McGrath appears to be listed ahead of Hunter Henry at TE. And although it isn't really a surprise, Mike Bercovici is listed as the fourth QB, even though he has been out performing his fellow backups recently.

Good thing this is just the first depth chart.

Defense

This confirms what we have been seeing in practice, that Damion Square has jumped Ryan Carrethers at NT. Rookie LB Jatavis Brown is listed with the second team at LB behind Te'o. The rest of the defensive depth chart reads pretty much as expected. Dexter McCoil and Adrian McDonald are the third pair of safeties, but that is very much fluid right now.

Special Teams

The only reason I bring this up is because of the returners. Even though he took reps off the Juggs machine in practice, Melvin Gordon is not listed on the KR list, which is a good thing. Branden Oliver is in there as the kick returner with Travis Benjamin listed as the punt returner.

And there you have it. I would expect changes in this list over the next few weeks, not only as cuts are made, but as players get a chance in game action.
