Just when you thought the war between the San Diego Chargers and the 3rd overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Joey Bosa, couldn’t get any worse...

It’s worth noting here that the comment is real, not photoshopped, and that Michael Gehlken has confirmed that it was actually made by Cheryl Bosa.
First of all, the idea that the Kings, Ducks or Angels rate ahead of the Chargers in terms of Southern California’s “Sports Talk” is absolutely laughable, but let’s ignore that for now and focus on the response from Bosa’s mother.
Saying that she wishes they had “pulled an Eli Manning on draft day” is her way of saying that she wishes her son and his agent had told the Chargers’ front office to not bother drafting Joey Bosa because he would not sign with their team.
I’m going to skip how absurd that statement is, as well, and focus more on this frayed relationship. The fact that it’s gotten this bad, the longest holdout by any rookie since the new Collective Bargaining Agreement was signed by the NFL and the NFLPA, is embarrassing. The fact that Bosa’s parents are now wishing that their son could be traded to another team, the way that Manning was, means that there is probably some irreparable harm being done here.
I can’t imagine this statement will motivate the Chargers to come back to the table and negotiate. Bosa’s mother doesn’t speak for him, but it’s a bad look to be insulting the team in such a way.
For those hoping that this ends quickly, you better start hoping that Joey is embarrassed by his mother’s comments and eager to get on the field. However, that does not seem very likely.
