The San Diego Chargers announced the remaining necessary moves today to get the roster down to 76 players (thanks to a roster exemption for Joey Bosa).
The Chargers waived-injured defensive lineman Zamir Carlis, offensive tackle Tyler Johnstone, running back Dreamius Smith, and wide receiver Javontee Herndon. All will be placed on the Reserve-Injured list if they pass through waivers without being claimed.
The team also earlier waived quarterback Zach Mettenberger, wide receiver Torrence Allen, cornerbacks Greg Ducre and Mike Lee, defensive lineman Bruce Gaston, outside linebacker Zach Hodges, and center Bruce Johnson. And both Donavon Clark and running back Branden Oliver were placed on the Reserve-Injured list. The latter two sustained season-ending injuries in the preseason against the Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings respectively.
The final round of cuts will bring the Chargers down to 53 players from their current 76 and they will need to conclude those moves by Saturday at 1:00 p.m. PDT. Hopefully, the team does not sustain any additional injuries in the fourth preseason game and all of the cuts are performance rather than injury-based.
