The San Diego Chargers are very slowly giving out the inactives for today's preseason contest against the Minnesota Vikings. Thus far, we have the following:
- S Jahleel Addae
- ILB Jatavis Brown
- G D.J. Fluker
- TE Antonio Gates
- WR Javontee Herndon
- NT Brandon Mebane
There could still be additional inactive players to be announced, but this is what we know right now. As Hayley Elwood noted at Chargers.com, week 3 of preseason is typically the “dress rehearsal” of sorts where you’ll see the majority of the game played by starters. Philip Rivers and co. in the past could be expected to come out for a series in the third quarter just to get a feel for playing after sitting at half time, but that’s reportedly unlikely today.
Antonio Gates sitting shouldn’t be surprising (as he hasn’t played in the preseason at all). He’s already ready for the season anyway, and getting Hunter Henry more reps to build on what he’s done isn’t a bad thing. That the defense will be without their nose tackle against the Vikings should be interesting to watch, though.
