The San Diego Chargers will be sitting the following players against the Arizona Cardinals tonight according to Chargers.com:
- QB Philip Rivers
- TE Antonio Gates
- RB Kenneth Farrow
- CB Greg Ducre
- OLB Tyler Marcordes
- TE Asante Cleveland
- OLB Chris Landrum
- ILB Jatavis Brown
- WR Javontee Herndon
- DT Zamir Carlis
The team apparently felt that Rivers got in enough work during the week’s joint practices that he did not need to be risked tonight. It’s a curious decision, but it’s difficult to argue with it. Arizona’s pass rush is not to be trifled with and if a quarterback for the Chargers is going to take shots you’d prefer it be someone other than Rivers.
That Gates will also sit is not surprise. The only disappointing name on the list is Jatavis Brown who you would like to see getting work, but he is apparently not healthy enough to go yet. Hopefully, he will get back on the field sooner than later because he could have a substantial role to play this season.
The exciting part is the players that are not inactive last week. We will finally get to see Tyrell Williams and Travis Benjamin play, though we will have to watch Kellen Clemens throw them the ball instead of Rivers.
